On 12 July, General Practitioners (GPs) came together for an enriching Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Enhancing Competency in the Diagnosis and Management of Common Breast Conditions” at Luma Paragon. Organised in collaboration with Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre and Luma Women’s Imaging Centre, this interactive educational session was specially designed to equip GPs with the latest knowledge and practical strategies in managing breast health concerns within the primary care setting.
We were honoured to have two esteemed speakers lead the session:
- Dr Lee Wai Peng, Senior Consultant & Breast Surgeon, Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre
- Dr Eugene Ong, Imaging Director, Consultant Radiologist & Co-founder, Luma Women’s Imaging Centre
Together, they shared invaluable insights drawn from their clinical experience and multidisciplinary collaboration in breast care management.
Programme Highlights
- Best Practices in Breast Lump Management & Early Cancer Detection
Dr Lee Wai Peng provided a comprehensive overview of identifying and managing breast lumps in primary care, assessing patient risk factors, and determining appropriate screening intervals. She also shared updates on current surgical options for breast cancer and guidelines for timely specialist referral, ensuring that patients receive prompt and appropriate care.
- What Should I Do When My Patient’s Breast Screening Report is Abnormal?
Dr Eugene Ong addressed common challenges faced by GPs when counselling patients with abnormal imaging results. He highlighted the importance of understanding diagnostic imaging modalities, when to consider a second opinion, and how Solis and Luma work together to offer seamless, patient-centred care pathways from primary to tertiary care.
- Case-Based Discussion: Real-World Scenarios in Breast Symptomatology and Screening
Participants engaged in dynamic case-based discussions involving scenarios such as breast lumps, breast pain, family history of breast cancer, and abnormal screening findings. The session emphasised practical approaches to preparing patients for imaging and procedures, and how clear, empathetic communication can significantly ease patient anxiety and improve care outcomes.
- Guided Facility Tour
To conclude, participants were given an exclusive tour of the Solis and Luma facilities, gaining firsthand insight into the integrated workflows of diagnostic imaging and surgical management in breast care.
A Meaningful Learning Experience
The session was well received by participants, who appreciated the practical, case-based approach and the opportunity for meaningful exchanges with experienced specialists. By strengthening GPs’ competencies in breast care management, the programme ultimately aims to empower primary care providers to reassure patients, offer timely interventions, and contribute to better breast health outcomes in the community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who joined us and to our expert speakers for their generosity in sharing their expertise. Here’s to continuing our shared commitment to advancing standards in breast care.
