Supporting General Practitioners in Breast Risk Assessment and Early Detection
On 25 July 2026, Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre and Luma Women’s Imaging Centre welcomed General Practitioners (GPs) to The Breast Thing To Do: Navigating Breast Concerns in General Practice, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session held at Grand Hyatt Singapore.
As the first point of contact for many women with breast concerns, General Practitioners play a vital role in facilitating early detection, timely diagnosis and coordinated care. Recognising the importance of primary care in the breast health journey, this CME session was designed to strengthen GPs’ confidence in assessing and managing common breast conditions, while supporting timely referral to specialist care when appropriate.
Programme Highlights
Led by Dr Esther Chuwa, Senior Consultant & Breast Surgeon at Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre, and Dr Sonia Lee, Consultant Radiologist at Luma Women’s Imaging Centre, the session combined expert presentations, case-based learning and clinical quizzes to equip General Practitioners with practical knowledge for managing breast conditions in primary care.
Key topics included:
- Breast cancer risk assessment and identifying women at higher risk
- Assessment of multiple breast lumps and other common breast symptoms
- Current breast cancer screening recommendations
- Practical guidance on when breast conditions can be managed in primary care and when specialist referral is appropriate
The interactive format encouraged active participation and peer discussion, allowing attendees to exchange experiences and gain practical insights that can be applied in everyday clinical practice.
Launch of a Practical Clinical Reference Handbook
A key highlight of the afternoon was the launch of a new clinical reference handbook developed specifically for General Practitioners.
Co-authored by a multidisciplinary team of breast surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, allied health professionals and other specialists, the handbook serves as a practical clinical reference to support the assessment and management of common breast conditions in primary care, supporting informed clinical decision-making and facilitating appropriate referrals.
